Theme
The theme for the competition is vernacular Architecture in the Gulf. Vernacular architecture is characterised by its reliance on needs, construction materials and traditions specific to its particular locality. It is a type of architecture which is indigenous to a specific time and place and not replicated elsewhere. Every region and country has culturally significant local (vernacular) architecture.
To encourage free thinking, individuals can decide what medium and method of sketching they would like to use whether it be using pencil or ink and are free to decide what they would like to submit whether it be a conceptual sketch, sketching from a reference image or a technical sketch of a vernacular structure, settlement pattern from their home country, iconic architectural symbols, etc.
