The property offshoot of Bahrain Mumtalakat Holding Company (Mumtalakat), Bahrain Real Estate Investment Company (Edamah) has revealed the master plan for Bilaj Al Jazayer, a mixed-use megaproject situated on Bahrain’s Southwest coast.
Spanning a whopping 1.3 million square metres, the master plan is a proposed seafront mixed-use tourism and recreational development that seeks to elevate Bahrain’s tourism landscape.
ABOUT THE PROJECT
Designed in a holistic manner that takes into account both cultural values and market demand, Bilaj Al Jazayer will be developed against the backdrop of enhancing the offering of public beaches and promoting the family, costal lifestyle in Bahrain.
The multi-purpose development will feature hospitality, leisure, food and beverage, residential and entertainment elements, centred around a retail spine and three-kilometre-long expanse of beach.
The project’s phased approach will see the delivery of multiple destinations, each with its own unique character, branding and offering. Developed by global firm Foster and Partners, Phase One of the project will see the rejuvenation of a one-kilometre-long stretch of beach into a landscape promenade consisting of F&B outlets and beach amenities.
A four-star hotel, branded boutique hotels and residential apartments will follow, along with a water sports facility and family entertainment offerings.
Once complete, Phase Two of the development is set to establish the Bilaj Sea Village and Resort, as well as a commercial marina retail and residential space.
“Bilaj Al Jazayer is a key development for Edamah and it will contribute in advancing the Kingdom of Bahrain’s infrastructure and add value to the tourism sector,” Amin Al Arrayed, Edamah’s CEO said.
SUSTAINABILITY AT THE FOREFRONT
Placing a sharp focus on sustainability, the development is being designed in alignment with the Kingdom’s commitment to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2060.
The project will incorporate green and clean technologies to reduce temperatures and purify the air, Khalid Al Rumaihi, Edamah’s Chairman announced.
In attempt to reduce the use of air conditioning and conserve energy during summer months, the buildings throughout the development will be specifically designed to reduce heat exposure.
In addition, the project will seek to minimise the use of vehicles by including shaded walkways near key amenities to encourage pedestrians to explore the area on foot.
In line with Bahrain’s efforts to protect the environment and promote sustainable development throughout the Kingdom, the coastal city’s infrastructure will also consist of water recycling facilities, along with state-of-the-art technologies for generating electricity from solar energy.
“Edamah’s goal is to ensure that the Bilaj Al Jazayer general masterplan serves Bahrain’s economic and leisure interests, while at the same time minimizing the environmental impact,” Al Arrayed highlighted.
