MDMS aims to revolutionize Saudi architecture using AI to address housing challenges, emphasizing cautious integration and human expertise

According to a report in Zawya earlier this week, Maximiliano Development Management Services (MDMS), a leading project development service provider in Saudi Arabia, sees great potential in using Artificial Intelligence (AI) to address the Kingdom's housing challenge. Working with The National Housing Company and private sector developers under the Ministry of Housing's program, MDMS aims to develop housing projects for the Saudi population.

SHORTAGE OF SUITABLE HOUSING

Saudi Arabia is facing a shortage of suitable housing due to a mandate issued in 2021. This mandate requires foreign firms to establish local headquarters by the end of 2023. This has led to a rise of foreign workers seeking properties to move into.

THE PROMISE OF AI IN ARCHITECTURE

Engineer Marwa Murad, the Managing Director and Founder of MDMS,  believes a collaborative and cautious integration of AI can enhance Saudi architecture. Using AI algorithms, architects can make efficient designs and perform complex tasks quickly. This will improve building performance and resource usage, in Murad's view.

AI'S ANALYTICAL CAPABILITIES

AI can analyse vast amounts of data, enabling architects to compare many options with speed.  This allows for fast-paced and informed decisions about design, materials, and construction methods. So, this analytical power of AI will be pivotal in driving the development of smart cities, where buildings integrate with technology and infrastructure.

CAREFUL IMPLEMENTATION OF AI

Murad underlines the need of approaching the use of AI with caution and in-depth research. To ensure it is reliable, safe, and compliant with laws, each use of AI in architecture should undergo in-depth research and expert review.

COLLABORATION FOR RESPONSIBLE IMPLEMENTATION

The successful application of AI in the architectural sector will rely on collaboration between architects, engineers, AI specialists, and key stakeholders. But, Murad emphasises that human architects and engineers must lead creative and decision-making processes. So they should leverage the potential of AI where appropriate, not rely on it.

AI AS AN AUGMENTATION TOOL

AI is a tool to enhance human capabilities, not replace them. So, while AI is useful, architects and engineers will still need to provide expertise, oversight, and creativity when it comes to implementing AI in architecture.

MDMS commits to innovation and collaboration. They are ready to embrace AI to improve their capabilities and create great designs. This will help meet Saudi Arabia's housing demands and promote sustainable urban development. Integrating AI into architecture can solve housing issues and build a brighter future for KSA’s population.
